The Sette Giugno riots are widely seen as the first milestone in Malta’s long journey toward independence from Britain, which was ultimately achieved in 1964. The uprising led to the introduction of the Amery–Milner Constitution of 1921, granting internal self-government and establishing a bicameral parliament.

Join us for the commemoration of Sette Giugno, a Maltese national holiday observed every year on 7 June. The day remembers the events of 1919, when widespread protests by the Maltese people led to British troops firing into the crowd, resulting in four deaths and around fifty injuries.
