Organ and Trumpet Recital at The Rotunda

FreeGianluca Libertucci is the organist of St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican, of the Pontifical Swiss Guard, of the General Audiences of the Pope, of the Church of Santa Maria dell’Orto in Trastevere (Rome) and holds the chair of Organ and Organ Composition at the “Licinio Refice” Conservatory of Music in Frosinone. He obtained a diploma in Organ and Organ Composition at the “Santa Cecilia” Conservatory of Music in Rome under the guidance of Luigi Celeghin (1991). He has an intense concert activity in the major national and international organ festivals. In 2007 and 2013 he performed Francis Poulenc’s “Concerto in G minor” for organ, string orchestra and timpani with the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Orchestra and the Teatro dell’Opera Orchestra in Rome, respectively. He has collaborated as an organist with prestigious opera and symphonic institutions such as the Teatro Massimo Bellini in Catania, the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia and the Teatro dell’Opera in Rome. He has recorded several CDs dedicated to the organ compositions of Giuseppe Liberto, maestro emeritus of the choir of the Cappella Musicale Pontificia “Sistina”. He is the author of much music for organ, choir and various ensembles. He is frequently invited to preside over the juries of international organ competitions. He designed the organ for the auditorium of the “Vincenzo Bellini” music conservatory in Catania. He was the coordinator of the technical-artistic commission for the restoration of the historic organ with five manuals and three consoles built in the 18th century by Donato Del Piano for the Benedictine abbey of San Nicolò l’Arena in Catania. Since 1991 he has directed the revision and maintenance of the organs of St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican. In 2019, at the Aula Magna of the University “La Sapienza” in Rome, the Maison des Artistes awarded him the “International Gold Medal Award” for particular artistic, professional and educational merits.
Gianpiero Cristaldi graduated in trumpet at the “V. Bellini” Music Institute in Catania and graduated with top marks at the Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Rome. He studied with Carmelo Fede, Giovanni Barone, Maurire Andrè, Hakan Hardenberger, Bernard Soustrot, Enric Aubier, Vincent Penzarella, Vincent Chikowitz, Sandro Verzari, Mauro Maur. He perfected his skills at the Lausanne Conservatory in Switzerland, studying baroque and modern trumpet with Gabriele Cassone, chamber music with Roger Bobo and conducting Bands and Brass Bands with Pascal Favre. He was the permanent director of the Moudon Brass Band in Switzerland for two years. In 2002 he attended the advanced training course for orchestra professors at the APM school in Saluzzo (CN) in collaboration with the RAI Symphony Orchestra of Turin. In 2003/04 he attended the Academy of Advanced Training for Orchestra Professors at the Teatro Alla Scala in Milan. He collaborates with various Italian orchestras and musical institutions, including the Teatro dell’Opera in Rome, the Festival dei due Mondi in Spoleto, the Amici della Musica and the A.gi.mus in Rome, playing under the guidance of important conductors including Luisotti, Muti, Lombard, Fraschillo, Rota, Garbarino, Franklin. He is the founder of the brass quintet “Etna Brass” with which he has performed numerous concerts. His activity as a soloist has taken him around the world, Italy, Switzerland, Malta and the USA, always obtaining unanimous acclaim from the public and critics. He recorded “Trumpetland” for Flipper Music in Rome with unpublished music by Perugini. He has several publications to his credit: for the publishing house “Nuovo Almanacco”, “Pastelli Musicali” for trumpet and piano, “Preludi e Ricercari” for trumpet and organ for the publishing house “Efferre”. Since 2005 he has held the position of first solo trumpet in the Italian Navy Band.
